ACT Dodge National’s Winner, DJ Kennington, Enters Milk Bowl Thunder Road
WATERBURY, VT – When Ontario’s DJ Kennington learned that his ACT Dodge Nationals winning mount had been promised to fellow Ontarian Dave Whitlock for this weekend’s 41st annual New England Dodge Dealers Milk Bowl he was disappointed to say the least. “Dave ran the car in its first race, at Kawartha Speedway (Peterborough, ONT), and I’m sure would have run it at Lee if his schedule had allowed. I hear he’s won the Milk Bowl, twice, and since he was free that weekend, he jumped at the chance to return to Thunder Road,” explained the 26 year-old from London, ONT.
Kennington will pilot a car owned by Stephane Bouchard, from Montreal, Qc. “Actually, the car I’ll be driving is a twin to the car I ran at Lee. Mike McColl of Toronto built both, although Bouchard’s is a year older.”
“I’ve driven Bouchard’s car before, both times at the Autodrome St-Eustache. They had a 500 lapper and a couple of weeks later, a 300 lapper. We were lucky enough to win both. As for Thunder Road and the Milk Bowl, we’re basically going to wing it. It will be my first time running a three-segment race. And from what I understand from talking to Dave Whitlock, the format will certainly make it interesting. And add in the fact that I’ve never raced on a high-banked quarter-mile. Most of the tracks in Ontario and on the Hooters Cup are one-third of a mile or larger. Sable Speedway (Sauble Beach, ONT) is a quarter of a mile but it’s as flat as a pancake!”
He continued, “I’ve heard a lot about Thunder Road, it’s a track with a lot of history and the Milk Bowl is a race that’s known across the US and Canada. I’m please to be able to be a part of it.” When Kennington was informed that the event has a comely beauty queen, he replied, “If it means that I’ve won the race, sure I’ll kiss the cow!”
In addition to Whitlock, Kennington joins fellow Ontarian Derek Lynch as a Milk Bowl entrant. Lynch will drive a car owned by ACT Dodge Tour regular Jacob McGrath of Killington, VT.
“I’m looking to avenge my 1994 Milk Bowl loss to Dave Whitlock,” Lynch recently stated. “I was on my way to victory with just a few laps left and race leader Mike Rowe pushed me high in the fourth turn wall. Dave went on to win his first of two consecutive Milk Bowls,” he recalled.
The 41st annual New England Dodge Dealers Milk Bowl is set for Sat and Sun, Oct 2-3. Spectator gates open both days at 10:00 am. Action starts at 1:30 pm on Sat and 1:00pm on Sun.
