ACT Plans New "Plus-Minus" Handicap For Lee USA Dodge National 150 Lee USA Speedway
Lee, NH - - ACT plans to use a new "plus-minus" handicapping format to determine the starting line-up of the Dodge Dealers National 150 at Lee USA Speedway, Sunday, September 26. The number of positions drivers gain or lose from their original starting position in qualifying heats will factor into their starting assignment in the main event. Starting positions in the heats are determined by draw.
"The draw for position procedure is necessary for us because we have a large number of Late Model teams competing in some, but not all ACT Dodge Tour events," explained ACT President Tom Curley. "At the same time, we’re trying to minimize the impact of the luck of the draw, and maximize the reward for racing hard and passing cars, which is what the fans pay to see."
Similar to the plus/minus statistics familiar to hockey fans with respect to goals scored and allowed, the ACT plus/minus handicap procedure will track each driver’s rise or fall from their starting position to their qualifying heat finish. "In the past, the winner of the first heat has started on the pole of the feature, the winner of the second heat has started on the outside pole and so forth," said Curley. With this system, someone who draws poorly, but passes enough cars to qualify, will likely be the pole sitter.
More than forty Late Model drivers from New England, New York and Quebec have entered the Dodge Dealers National 150, which has a posted purse of $52, 675 that pays $10,000 to win. A sixty-car field is expected to attend and compete for 34 starting positions.
The event is the 13th of 14 races on the ACT Dodge Tour, which culminates with the 41st Dodge Dealers Milk Bowl at Thunder Road Speedbowl in Barre, VT, Saturday/Sunday October 2, 3.
