Lake Erie Speedway Announces Race of Champions presented by Dodge : Raceway Media

North East, PA (July 15th, 2004) – Lake Erie Speedway has confirmed the date, and three of four Nextel Cup Drivers for it’s Race of Champions presented by Dodge. Be sure to reserve Saturday, August 14th for the biggest racing event that Lake Erie Speedway has ever hosted. The fourth BIG name driver will be announced at a later date!

Here’s the line-up:

Rookie sensation, Kasey Kahne, is the first driver for the 2004 Race of Champions presented by Dodge. Kasey has been running his #9 UAW Dodge Dealers Intrepid extremely strong in only his first season on the Nextel Cup circuit. He is currently 14th in points. Kasey Kahne has started from the pole position four times already this season, and has also finished in the runner-up position an astounding four times. As a side note, Kasey Kahne has recently found himself in People Magazine’s list of top 50 most eligible bachelors.

Bill Elliott, voted most popular driver in the NASCAR Nextel Cup Series a record Fifteen (15) times and ten years consecutively is the second driver in the Race of Champions presented by Dodge. Bill has finished in the top 10 in Nextel Cup point standings 4 times and has earned over $20 million dollars in his Nextel Cup career. Elliott has also tallied 44 NASCAR wins!

Dale Jarrett, driver of the #88 UPS car, is the third driver locked down for the Race of Champions presented by Dodge. Jarrett won the Budweiser Shootout this year and is currently twelfth (12) in Nextel Cup points. Dale Jarrett has recorded 29 Nextel Cup wins with four of those coming in 1999 when he won the Winston Cup Championship.

The fourth driver in the Race of Champions presented by Dodge will be released within the next few days. Todd Melfi, General Manager for Lake Erie Speedway, had this to say about this year’s race, “We are very excited to be able to bring this line-up of drivers to Lake Erie Speedway. This is undoubtedly the best group of drivers that we have had for the Race of Champions presented by Dodge since we have opened. We fully expect a capacity crowd for this event.”
